Suffolk Times staffers to talk ‘Gone’ at Press Club of L.I. event

Three Suffolk Times staffers will discuss their reporting on the 1966 disappearance of Cutchogue’s Louise Pietrewicz at a free event being hosted in Riverhead Thursday evening.

“Solving A Cold Case: An Inside Look at the ‘Gone’ Murder Mystery” is being hosted by the Press Club of Long Island at the Suffolk County Historical Society building on West Main Street.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Newsday investigative reporter Keith Herbert and feature Times Review Media Group executive editor Steve Wick, content director Grant Parpan and content producer Krysten Massa.

The three journalists will talk about how they put together their October special report on the investigation, which included a three-part documentary series and has been credited with helping to lead to the discovery of Ms. Pietrewicz’s remains more than 50 years after she disappeared.

The event, part of PCLI’s journalism education program, is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 24.

Anyone interested in attending the discussion is asked to RSVP by emailing PressClubofLI@gmail.com.

The Press Club of Long Island is the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Mr. Wick, Mr. Parpan and Ms. Massa are also scheduled to appear at several other events being hosted across the East End in the coming months. The Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport will screen the documentary July 26, followed by Mattituck-Laurel Library on August 15 and the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton on Oct. 15.

The reporters are currently filming a fourth chapter to the documentary series, showing the aftermath of their award-winning report. They are aiming to have the fourth installment completed before the upcoming screenings and will again publish the video on suffolktimes.com.

Thursday’s event will not include a screening, but the report can still be read and viewed online.
