Main Roots Salon and Blow Dry Bar opens in Southold

Main Roots Salon and Blow Dry Bar has a very personal meaning for its new owner, Kerry Conrardy. She grew up in Southold and decided to come back to her “roots” to open her own salon.

“This is really exciting,” she said. “This is something I’ve wanted to do forever and it doesn’t even feel real, owning my own salon.”

Ms. Conrardy has been a hair stylist for about 10 years, and owning her own salon has been a longtime dream. Although Main Roots has not had its official opening celebration yet, customers are welcome to walk in. She hopes to have a party with some food and champagne in late June to thank clients, friends and family for their support.

“I’ve always pretty much been on the North Fork, but Southold is where I grew up and I love the town,” Ms. Conrardy said. “All my clients are from out east, and I thought this would be a really good, fun location.”

Main Roots is a full-service salon at 53800 Main Road, across from Feather Hill Commons.

She loved the location because of the foot traffic and encourages people to stop in anytime for blow-outs. Her main goal was to create a salon with a different vibe from others, and she designed the shop herself, with some help from Pinterest, of course.

“I was just trying to go for a nice, chill atmosphere. Not your typical salon; something different” she said. “I didn’t want that typical, stuffy salon atmosphere. I wanted somewhere where people can come and relax, feel comfortable and get beautified.” Her specialty is blondes and highlights.

Previously, she worked in salons in Greenport and Mattituck and with bridal parties and worked freelance in the Hamptons on some TV shows and sets.

Ms. Conrardy earned an associate degree from Nassau Community College, but then realized she’d always wanted to learn to do hair professionally.

“It’s just something I always wanted to do,” she said. “I’ve always just loved it. I always wanted a trade and I saw this one day happening.”

She studied at ARROJO Cosmetology School in New York City, graduating in 2010.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting new people, growing and hopefully one day taking on a staff, and being successful, “ Ms. Conrardy said.

The salon has a designated seating area in the back for bridal parties. She also sells ARROJO products, to bring a piece of New York City to Southold, as well as Moroccan Oil hair care products and smaller items like wet brushes.

Current salon hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will also likely open on Sunday mornings when the summer season picks up.
