Southold Blotter: Jet ski fire damages nearby shed

Police and the Southold Fire Department responded to a fire at a residence in Southold Sunday around 1:30 a.m., police said. Two jet skis on the side of the residence were on fire, and the owner’s son was attempting to extinguish it with a garden hose, the report states.

The officer who responded used additional water from another hose, and the fire department fully extinguished it when they arrived, police said. The fire caused damage to the east side of the house and a nearby shed, police said.

• An employee of the Whiskey Wind Tavern in Greenport called police when a Greenport man became enraged and punched a plate glass window valued at $500, causing it to shatter, Saturday around 9:30 p.m., according to Southold Town Police.

• A Cutchogue man called police Saturday after being the victim of a phone scam, police said. A woman claiming to be from the IRS ordered him to purchase $1,987.73 in Google Play cards and to give her the ID numbers because he owed back taxes, police said. He tried to call the number back once he realized it was a scam, but the number was out of service.

• A dog was reported running around unattended in the parking lot and inside of a Southold restaurant last Tuesday around 7:20 p.m., police said. The dog was found to be acting aggressively and was eventually returned to its owner, who was given a town code violation, the report states.

• A Laurel woman reported Coronas, three one-dollar bills and a car charger were removed from her vehicle last Monday, police said. She said it most likely happened some time Friday night, officials said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
