Nicholas William Durka of Greenport died Sept. 12 at Mills Pond Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in St. James. He was 86.
He was born April 16, 1932, in Jackson Heights to Thomas and Katherine (Ivanchesian) Durka.
He and his wife Jacqueline married in 1980 in Queens. Nicholas was a firefighter in Woodside, N.Y. for over 20 years.
Family members said he loved fishing, clamming, boating and hunting.
Predeceased by his wife Jacqueline in 2016; he is survived by his daughters, Karen, of Glen Head, and Jennifer Barbini of Coral Springs, Fla.; his son Derek, of the Bronx; his brother Stanley; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Monday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m., officiated by Fr. Richard Hoerning.
Interment will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Pinelawn, N.Y.
