William W. Wurtz

William W. Wurtz of Cutchogue died at home Sept. 7. He was 77.

He was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Brooklyn to Elizabeth (Brown) and William E. Wurtz. He received a bachelor’s degree from Nichols College. He served two years in the U.S. Army, and married Judith Bonczyk Nov. 1, 1969, in Riverhead.

William worked as a Suffolk County probation officer in Yaphank for 20 years. He was a member of the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, and belonged to Our Lady of Ostrabama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

Family members said he loved reading and long walks on the beach, whether he was at Nassau Point in Cutchogue or Siesta Key, Fla.

Predeceased by his sister Cynthia Garvin; he is survived by his wife, Judith; his daughters, Melissa Fiedler of Key West, Fla., and Wendy Turdo of East Lyme, Conn.; his sisters, Peggy Fisher of Brunswick, Maine, and Susan Roper of Hancock, N.H.; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church.

Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
