Southold Blotter: Greenport man arrested for DWI

Germa Machado-Mazariegos, 23, of Greenport was arrested for DWI Friday around 3 a.m. He was driving a 2007 Jeep eastbound on Route 25 and failed to maintain his lane, officials said.

• A Mattituck man told police Saturday around 2:25 p.m. that he heard a gunshot that sounded like it was fired in the direction of his home.

Police spoke with a Cutchogue man who had been hunting in the area, who stated that he’d shot a deer but was not aiming in the direction of a residence.

• A Riverhead woman reported that her 2010 Ford Expedition was rummaged through Friday around 9 a.m. while parked at Eastern Long Island Hospital.

A tube of lip gloss and $5 were reported stolen, police said.

• Southold police responded to Bayview Apartments Saturday around 3 p.m. on a report of a dispute involving a man with a knife.

After a verbal argument, a man pulled out a box cutter, threatening another man.

They were separated and no charges were filed, police said.

• A Peconic man reported Sunday around 11 a.m. that hunters might be too close to his residence.

Police responded and observed hunters in a small boat “well beyond 500 feet” from the residence, officials said.

• An East Marion woman reported an attempted break-in at her residence Sunday around 1 p.m.

According to a police report, the woman first noticed the damage to her front door latch on Jan. 13. It did not appear that anyone had gained entry to the house, police said.

• Police responded to a report of loud music coming from a vehicle on Center Street Sunday around 7 p.m. 

The driver stated that he was testing a stereo he was installing in his vehicle and agreed to turn it down, police said.

• Southold police are investigating a possible burglary at the Peconic Landing property management building last week.

An employee reported finding the front door ajar when she reported to work last Tuesday morning around 8:25 a.m., police said.

There was minor damage to the door frame and the latch was broken off, but nothing was reported stolen.

• A Cutchogue man reported last Wednesday that while he was away on vacation, several security cameras were damaged or dislodged from their positions.

• The Mattituck Fire Department responded to a Mattituck home last Thursday around 5:45 p.m. after a meter pan attached to a residence caught on fire.

According to police, PSEG-LI responded and cut off power to the residence. The cause of the fire was determined to be a problem with the utility’s service into the residence, officials said.

• A Peconic woman reported that her iPhone and wallet were stolen from the Senior Center in Mattituck last Tuesday around 10 p.m. 

The woman used the Find My iPhone application and located the phone in the mailbox in front of the Mattituck post office, officials said. Police were unable to locate the wallet. 

Correction: The print version of this story incorrectly listed a DWI charge against a Peconic man involved in a crash. Police said the driver was headed eastbound on Main Road at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a PSEG utility pole and the sign of Bedell Cellars. He was transported to ELIH for evaluation.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
