Joseph M. Metzner

Joseph M. Metzner of Cutchogue died April 23 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 92. 

He was born Aug. 31, 1926, to Julia and Augustus Metzner in Brooklyn. 

He attended New York University, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and as a battalion chief in the New York City Fire Department. 

Mr. Metzner was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marian Council, Sacred Heart Parish and Cutchogue Historical Society. 

His family said he enjoyed gardening, fishing and wood carving. 

Mr. Metzner was predeceased by his wife, June, in 2018.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jean Shotwell of Pennsylvania; his sons William (Christine) of Florida and Martin (Dawn) of Arizona; his grandchildren Heather, Amber, Kim, Andrew, Christopher, Sarah, Katie and Mark; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Friday, April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Services will take place Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. The funeral home assisted the family with a private cremation.
