Percy Bertel Wilson

Percy Bertel Wilson of Brooklyn, formerly of Greenport, died Aug. 11. He was 79.

He was born June 7, 1940, to Vernice Hines and Daniel Wilson in Greenport.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years, attaining the rank of lance corporal (E-3), where he received a Good Conduct Medal, a Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Rifle Marksman Badge and a Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. He was a member of the Greenport American Legion and enjoyed singing, cooking, watching TV, reading, watching the news, fishing and playing poker with the guys, his family said.

Mr. Wilson made a career as supervisor at the Animal Disease Research Center on Plum Island for 29 years.

Mr. Wilson was predeceased by siblings Daniel, Robert, Reginald, Delores Wilson and Doris Colon. He is survived by his significant other, Angel Cordes; his children, Matthew Cordes of Brooklyn, Steven Wilson of York, Pa., Sandra Wilson of Randallstown, Md., and step-daugher Lori Holbrook of Selden, N.Y.

Visitors were received Aug. 19 at Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenport, followed by a service and interment with Marine Corps Honor Guard at Calverton National Cemetery.
