Stanley I. Rubin

Stanley I. Rubin of Southold died Feb. 14 at age 94.

Born Feb. 27, 1925, in the Bronx, Mr. Rubin was the son of Albert and Helen (Klavans) Rubin. He attended Townsend Harris High School Manhattan and City College of New York. He married Eva Oser on Oct. 30, 1948.

He served with the U.S. Navy for four years, attaining the rank of chief petty officer.

Mr. Rubin lived in Orient for 22 years before moving to Southold 18 years ago.

He was a chaplain for Eastern Long Island Hospital and gabbai for Congregation Tifereth Israel in Greenport.

Mr. Rubin’s affiliations included Orient Congregational Church, Congregation Tifereth Israel, Greenport Ecumenical Ministries, Orient Central Cemetery and Oysterponds Historical Society.

His interests were languages, history, religion, genealogy, reading and volunteering, and he enjoyed telling jokes, according to his family.

Mr. Rubin was predeceased by his wife and his sister, Paula Sherman. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Finn; his son, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Horton Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, with Rabbi Howard Diamond and the Rev. Ann VanCleef officiating. Burial will follow at Orient Central Cemetery.
