Frederick D. Milner

Longtime North Fork resident Frederick Milner died March 10. He was 62.

The son of William and Alberta Jacobs, he was born in Freeport, N.Y., and grew up in Cutchogue. 

He graduated from Southold High School and enlisted in the Coast Guard shortly thereafter, serving primarily in Alaska.

He then entered the construction trade, the start of a lifelong career. He was a talented athlete throughout most of his life and a devoted fan of the Mets and the Jets.

Fred is survived by his mother, Alberta Jacobs; children, Jennifer (Jonathan) Shipman of Mattituck, Kristy Milner of Florida, Christopher Milner of Pennsylvania and Stephen Milner of California; four grandchildren; and sisters, Bonnie (Michael) Doroski of Southold, Kathryn (Jay) Burkhardt of Cutchogue and Lisa Jacobs of Cutchogue. He was predeceased by his brother, William Milner. 

He will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew him. “J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!”

Visitors were received March 14 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Closing prayers will take place Monday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors to follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
