Zivojin Rackovitch

Zivojin Rackovitch of Greenport died at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home in Smithtown March 6. He was 93.

He was born Nov. 9, 1926, to Lillian and Peter Ratzkovich in Flushing, N.Y.

After high school, Mr. Rackovitch served in the Marine Corps for three years, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was employed as a milkman in New York City for 15 years, as a silver importer for 25 years and he authored six books.

Mr. Rackovitch married his wife, Harriet, on Jan. 21, 1951, in Flushing.
He received a Silver Medal Award in 2014 from Military Society of America for his book, “My Corps.” His family said he was an avid gardener who enjoyed chess and poker.

Mr. Rackovitch was predeceased by his son Thomas in 2004. He is survived by children Donna Mann and Daria Kowal of Greenport, Kim Worko of Flushing, Michael Rackovitch of North Chili, N.Y., Judith Rackovitch and Joseph Longhway, both of Long Beach, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Saturday, March 14, from noon to 4 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery in Greenport, with date and time to be announced.
