Harold R. Freeman Jr.

Former Greenport resident Harold R. Freeman Jr. of Huntington Station died March 25, 2020. He was 87.

He was born in Greenport May 13, 1932, to Jennie (Richards) and Harold R. Freeman Sr.

Mr. Freeman graduated from Greenport High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1967. He met his wife, Sumako, in Okinawa, Japan, and they were married in 1958. After his Navy service, they settled in Huntington Station, where he pursued a career with Grumman Aerospace as a draftsman. He also attended C.W. Post, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in 1982.

According to family, Mr. Freeman enjoyed sharing his many musical and artistic talents with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sumako; sisters, Georgia Rudder of Greenport and Margaret Coulter of Delray Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service was held March 28 at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport, with Pastor Garrett Johnson presiding.

Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport assisted the family.
