Maureen C. Ostermann, 90, passed away on Dec. 2, 2020, in Southold, Long Island.
Maureen was born in Jamaica, N.Y., on Oct. 30, 1930, to James F. Hickey and Catherine (Kenna) Hickey, the second of four children, and resided in Malverne, Long Island, from 1932 to 1959. She was educated at Holy Name of Mary School, Valley Stream; The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates; and Our Lady of Good Counsel College, White Plains, N.Y.
After a business career with New York Telephone Company, then AT&T, in Brooklyn and Patchogue, she retired to Southold, where she met and married Lawrence Ostermann.
Maureen was a past president of Southold Historical Society, a past member of the board of Southold Free Library and a longtime volunteer with the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Ostermann; and her brother, James F. Hickey, Jr. Maureen is survived by her sisters, Jeanne C. Hickey of Sarasota, Fla., and Virginia Mayer of Lewes, Del.; 11 nieces and nephews; 23 grandnieces and -nephews; and five great-nieces and -nephews.
Friends and family were received at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold on Dec. 9. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 10 at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Southold, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
