Anne E. Trimble

May 17, 1952 – December 27, 2022

Anne Trimble, 70, passed away at sunset on Dec. 27, 2022, at her home. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Usually dressed in stripes and plaids and always topped with a quirky cap, Anne was not only a masterful horticultural wonder, but was also known for her huge heart. She loved her wife, Nancy Leskody, her family, her friends, every aspect of nature, all manner of animals and, of course, her progressive politics. Her messages on the environment and racial and social justice were everywhere, evident at the nursery on flags, banners and the sign out front. She lived what she believed.

Trimble’s of Corchaug Nursery, which she founded with Nancy in 1991, is a destination and an experience here on the North Fork. These four acres have become a beloved home for gardeners far and wide. Anne and Nancy designed it as a botanical garden as well as a business, full of unusual plant material, planted bowling balls and old skis mounted on fences. The Idea Garden is itself a fitting memorial.

Anne was born in Rhode Island and received her Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture from the University of Rhode Island. Her extensive background in estate and urban horticulture includes a partnership in Geo Design Custom Gardens, restoration and landscape design of Tavern on the Green, and assistant director of children’s education at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Anne also directed the restoration of the gardens at the General Theological Seminary in Chelsea.

She and Nancy have donated trees, shrubs, perennials and their expertise to beautify many public spaces on the North Fork. Anne was the director of a successful landscape division that has redefined many small gardens and sprawling estates, utilizing organic practices and healthy plant material. These gardens will thrive and soothe over the decades.

Anne is also survived by her brother Thomas (Karen); nephews Brent (Lindsay and their children, Benjamin and James) and Nathan (Allison); niece Erin Olkowski (Jason and their children, Natalie and Madeline); sister-in-law Kathy Leskody; and her well-loved cat Lily.

Anne E. Trimble has left us, but also left us with much to cherish.

Happy Celestial Gardening, Anne.

Services for Anne will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.

In lieu of flowers, Anne would be really happy to know that donations were made to northforkanimalwelfareleague.org, the Southold Town Tree Committee or any other animal, environmental or conservation organization.

This is a paid notice.
