Armida Milusich

Armida Milusich of Southold died March 11, 2023.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and was raised in New York City and Westwood, N.J.

Upon graduating from high school, Armida attended secretarial school and landed a job as a secretary to an account executive at BBDO, the global advertising and marketing agency. After raising her three boys, Armida enrolled in the nursing program at Hunter College and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in nursing. She then went on to obtain a master’s degree in nursing, also from Hunter College.

As a registered nurse, Armida spent some 18 years working at Elmhurst General Hospital Center in Queens, concentrating on orthopedics and continuing education. She retired in 1995 as head nurse in substance abuse. She also taught nursing principles, for one semester, at LaGuardia Community College.

Upon retirement, Armida moved to Southold with her husband, Bill, and promptly began volunteering in the English as a second language program, and later volunteered at Eastern Long Island Hospital. Armida was skilled at needle crafts and sketching; she enjoyed maintaining her beautiful garden and reading fiction.

Armida is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Bill; sons Raymond, William and John; John’s wife, Janice; three grandchildren, Grace, Eve and Peter; and by her brother, Eugene D’Amaddio, and his wife, Denise.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, March 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Southold, with Father John Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery in Southold.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made in Armida’s name to the charity of your choice.
