Joanne Gallitano Barrett

Joanne Gallitano Barrett, a longtime resident of East Marion, N.Y., and Greenport, N.Y., passed away April 10, 2023, at Peconic Landing in Greenport, where she had resided happily for over a decade, serving as chair of the finance committee and on the member cooperative board. 

Joanne was the daughter of the late Joseph and Vera Gallitano, loving wife of the late Dr. Edward Barrett for 39 years, and sister of the late Joseph Gallitano. 

She is survived by her children, Bill and Elaina Barrett, and nephew Joshua Gallitano. 

Joanne worked at the innovative Columbia University Computer Center in the late 1960s, and later at IBM, where she rose to the level of director. In Greenport, N.Y., she mentored young people about career choices. She was also an extremely accomplished watercolorist. 

Friends and relatives will gather to celebrate her life at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport on Wednesday, April 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Burial will take place Friday, April 28, at Hackensack (N.J.) Cemetery.
