Teresa Taylor

Teresa Taylor, teacher, novelist and memoirist, died on May 25, 2023, at Peconic Landing in Greenport at the age of 83.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert Feger; stepson Christopher Feger (Ani Rosado); grandchildren Christopher and Ryan; sister Mary Vacca; nieces Clare Lamy (Ryan), Elena Vacca and Maria Vacca; great-niece Madeline; and great-nephews Colin and Robbie.

Teresa was a lifelong educator and mentor, teaching English at Brooklyn Technical High School from 1961 to 1982 and at Southold High School from 1982 to 1995. After retirement, she taught English as a second language, memoir writing and literature at several venues on Long Island’s North Fork. In her retirement years she also worked for Times/Review Newspapers as a proofreader. She also was the author of two novels and a collection of essays.

She was a voracious reader and served for many years on the board of Cutchogue/New Suffolk Free Library. Her love of learning and language, and her natural gift for teaching, inspired hundreds of students fortunate enough to have attended her classes.

A service in celebration of this much-loved and remarkable woman will be held Sunday, June 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.

For those who may wish to make a donation in her memory in lieu of flowers, Teresa was a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Center for Advocacy, Support and Transformation (CAST).
