Carol Ann Peters

Carol Ann Peters of Peconic Landing in Greenport, and formerly of Mattituck and Riverhead, died on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. She was 84 years old.

Carol was born on June 19, 1939, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Rita M. (née Flood) and Vincent M. Attanasi. She was one of two children. She graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy High School. After high school she attended Hunter College in the Bronx where she attained her master’s degree.

On July 8, 1978, she married the love of her life, Joseph Peters, in Hampton Bays, N.Y. In her professional career, Carol worked as a teacher for the NYC School District for 20 years and then with the Hampton Bays UFSD for 15 years. She was a member of the United Federation of Teachers, a member of the National Education Association, a member of the Newman Club, a member of the Elementary Education Club and a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Carol was a devout Catholic.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and her sister, Rita Murphy, Carol is survived by her nieces and nephews, Rita Jurgielewicz (Joseph), Patti Young (William), Paul Murphy (Kathleen) and Jim Murphy (Christine); and stepchildren Lisa Peters and Jeffrey Peters (Davi). Carol was also the beloved “Nana” to Molly and Nathan Peters.

The family received friends on Sept. 17 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 18 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
