Christopher John Steiner
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher John Steiner of North Babylon, NY. He passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 9, 2026. He was 39 years old.
Chris, the youngest of three children, was born on July 7, 1987 in Southampton to Jack and Laurie Steiner.
Growing up on the North Fork, Chris attended Southold High School and graduated in 2005. He began his career as an electrician and quickly earned a reputation for his strong work ethic, technical skill, and reliability. He later brought those talents to Liberty Utilities, serving as a maintenance mechanic. Chris earned his operator’s license and spent seven years as a respected and valued member of the Merrick Production Department, where he was appreciated not only for his work but also for the relationships he built with those around him.
Chris lived life with a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He loved to travel, hike and ski in the mountains, watch sunsets, and spend summers at the beach, creating cherished memories with family and friends along the way. He was passionate about anything with two wheels, from downhill mountain biking to motorcycle rides and days spent at his favorite racetrack. Above all, Chris found his greatest joy in spending time with the people he loved, especially his nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Kai.
As a beloved grandson, son, brother and uncle he is survived by his grandmother Lucille Zuhoski; parents Jack and Laurie Steiner; his brothers Mark (Kelly) and Brian (Chris); his nephews, Nick and Gavin; and his nieces, Beth, Emily, Maddie, and Avery. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama Church in Cutchogue.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may honor his memory with a donation to the North Fork Animal Welfare League northforkanimalwelfareleague.org/donate.
DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold is serving the family.
