John Francis Leddy

John Francis Leddy, 88, a longtime resident of Cutchogue, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026.

Born on March 1, 1938, John was the son of Michael J. Leddy, Sr. and Mary (Lennon) Leddy, proud Irish immigrants who built their lives and close family of ten children in Queens, New York.

John graduated from John Adams High School and proudly volunteered to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying the discipline and quiet strength of that service throughout his life. A man of deep faith and community service, he was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Council and Knights of Columbus.

John spent most of his accomplished career in furniture sales at Macy’s on 34th Street and he also worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street. He had an incredible sense of humor and was a natural storyteller, delighting friends and family with vivid tales of his many travels around the world. He returned to his Irish roots, journeying to Cavan and Longford with his wife and daughter. His deep love of his family and Irish culture stayed with him all his life.

A lifelong lover of athletics, John played softball on the Knights of Columbus team and was a devoted fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jets, Mets, and the Knicks. He was actively involved in the Massapequa Soccer Club and took great pride in coaching his children’s teams. Blessed with “the gift of the gab,” John was never shy on the basketball court, and he’d make you smile while announcing how “fine and dandy” his jump shot was feeling that day.

John found joy in his garden. Some of his happiest hours were spent cultivating new breeds of flowers and tending his vegetables, which he loved sharing with his friends and neighbors. It was in this generosity that those who knew him best saw who he truly was.

John is survived by his former wife, Kathleen Ellen (Leddy) O’Connell of Jensen Beach, Fla., and by his four children Lisa Ann Leddy of Amityville, NY, Noreen Rosemary Leddy Layton of Jupiter, Fla., Sean Michael Patrick Leddy (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC and Brendan Gerard Leddy of Juno Beach, Fla.

He was the proud grandfather of Meghan Leddy, Robert Cantelmo, Jackson Layton, and Katelyn Leddy.

John is also survived by his brother Gerard K. Leddy of San Francisco, Calif.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his brothers Michael Joseph Leddy II (Mary Ann), Thomas Leddy (Mary), James Leddy (Eileen), and Raymond Leddy. He was also predeceased by his older sisters Mary/Mae Armstrong (George), Eileen Dudwick (Kenneth), Bernadette Sidebotham (Jack), and Elizabeth “Betty” Leddy.

John’s life spanned decades of change across Long Island and the greater New York area, yet he remained constant in his devotion to the people and places that formed him. We love you Dad.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 10, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Church, 37 Union Avenue, Amityville, NY 11701. Arrangements were under the care of Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, NY 11701.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made in John’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
