Lorraine Florence van Ryswyk

Lorraine Florence van Ryswyk of Mattituck, and formerly of Southold, passed away in Brooklyn, Conn., on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. She was 94 years old.

Lorraine was born on April 17, 1932 in Greenport to Florence E. (Gordon) and Walter W. McAslan. She was one of four children, and was raised in Southold.

On Feb. 15, 1949 she married the love of her life, the late John K. van Ryswyk at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church. Together they had three children. They moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and then eventually made their home in Mattituck. During Covid, Lorraine moved to Connecticut to be near her son. In her professional career, she worked as a self-employed seamstress for 60 years. Above all else, she loved her family.

Predeceased by her husband John in 2007; and siblings Malcolm McAslan, Claire Smith and Walter McAslan; Lorraine is survived by her children Johan van Ryswyk (Virginia) of Brooklet, Ga., Ellen Sherba of Coral Springs, Fla. and Adrianus van Ryswyk (Donna) of Norwich, Conn.; grandchildren Johnny, Christina, Hans, Jerrina, Angie, Nichole, Myra and Stephen; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, July 23 at 1 p.m. at New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck, officiated by Reverend Garret Johnson. DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck is serving the family.
