Janice Chew

Janice L. Chew, 76, of Mattituck, died peacefully at home on Aug. 13, 2026.

She was born in Queens, to Russell and Doris (nee Kohn) Nodine. Janice was a graduate of Riverhead High School and later attended Farmingdale College. She spent much of her career with Verizon before retiring. She had been a resident of Mattituck for
approximately 50 years, previously living in Manorville.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the church community. She was married to her beloved husband, Hull (“Buzz”), with whom she recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and the many years she shared with those closest to her. In addition to her husband, Janice is survived by her children Marilyn Rutkoski (Robert) of Mattituck, James Chew of California, and Bryon (Lisa) Chew of Mattituck. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Michael (Marisa), Jennifer, Ashley, Emily, and Nicholas; and her great-grandchild, Marley. Janice is also survived by her sister Laurel (Mike) Martin of Longwood, Fla. She was predeceased by her brother, Gary Nodine.

Janice will be deeply missed by her family, friends. Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan
Funeral Homes, 13805 Main Road (NYS Route 25), Mattituck, New York 11952, 11 miles East of L.I.E., Exit 73. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. in the DeFriest-Grattan chapel. Interment will follow in New Bethany Cemetery, 11155 Main Road (NYS Route 25), Mattituck, New York 11952. The c/o Main Road (NYS Route 25) and Legion Avenue.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mattituck Fire Department Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
