Francisca J. (Paquita) Montenegro

Francisca J. (Paquita) Montenegro of Southold passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at the age of 99.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1927 in Havana, Cuba to Francisca (née Aranda) and José Garcia. She was an only child. She attended American Dominican Academy in Havana, Cuba, and then the Institute of Vedado, Havana Business Secretarial School. In 1961 she immigrated to South America and lived in Chile, Peru, Panama and Argentina. She left South America in 1972, moving to the States. She lived in Fresh Meadows, Queens, Ringwood, N.J., Fairlawn, N.J., Hollywood, Fla. and Miami, Fla. She lived in Southold for the past three years. While in Cuba, she worked as an accountant for Salas, Gutierrez and Gamoneda.

On Dec. 13, 1952, at Parroquia del Vedado Church in Cuba, she married the love of her life, the late José Montenegro, and together they had three sons.

Predeceased by her husband José Montenegro; Francisca is survived by her sons, Joseph Montenegro (Donna) of Metairie, La., George Montenegro of Labelle, Fla. and Julio Montenegro (Barbara) of Southold; grandchildren Francesca, Danielle, Justin, Josef, Marina, Brendan, Julian and Eily; and great-grandchildren Aiden, Patrick, Emillia, Jaxson, Ellis and Wesley.

Services for Ms. Montenegro will be held at a future date in Miami, Fla.

Arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
