Patrica Ann Finger

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Ann Finger announces her peaceful passing on Sept. 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Patricia was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter Charles Finger.

Patricia will be lovingly remembered by her six children: John Finger (spouse Debra Ruff), Amy Chandler (spouse John Chandler), Joanne Brown (spouse Bill Brown), Ellen MacNair (spouse Michael MacNair), Jeanne Cardinale (spouse Alan Cardinale), and Aileen Mitchell (spouse Jason Mitchell); as well as her 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Patricia was born on Feb. 22, 1935, in Lindenhurst, N.Y., to Patrick and Ann Early. She graduated from Lindenhurst High School, where she excelled in all her classes and played field hockey, basketball, and softball. The friendships she made there lasted a lifetime.

Patricia met the love of her life, Walter, while bowling, shortly after he returned home from serving his country in Korea. They married and eventually moved to Cutchogue, where together they raised their growing family.

Patricia worked at Southold Savings Bank and stayed on through its transition to North Fork Savings Bank, where she was assistant to the vice president until her retirement.

Patricia gave generously of her time to her community. She was active in the Lioness Club and the PTA, and she volunteered at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Patricia had many hobbies, including sewing, knitting, gardening, golf, and travel. Nothing brought her more joy than a Broadway show, especially a musical. She was an avid reader and a true whiz at crossword puzzles and trivia.

In 2021, Patricia and Walter relocated to Wilmington, N.C. Patricia quickly made many new friends and became involved in many activities at Carolina Bay, where they resided.

Patricia was a wonderful Nana. She lovingly sewed Halloween costumes for her grandchildren and knitted baby blankets for each one of her great grandchildren.  Even though the family was spread across the country, she and Walter would travel near and far to watch a recitals or sporting events.

Patricia had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She made friends easily and touched the lives of everyone she met. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

A service celebrating Patricia’s life will be held on Nov. 14, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the GRIN2B Foundation.
