The inaugural Bug Light Classic Regatta — hosted by the East End Seaport Museum, Stirling Harbor Foundation, and Shelter Island Yacht Club — set sail Saturday after the nor’easter postponed it Sept. 26.
Classic yacht owners and sailors from across the East End competed in Greenport Harbor between Preston’s Chandelry and the railroad dock. The races, which began at 1 p.m., had sailors start off of Mitchell Park and sail east, passing Bug Light in Gardiners Bay.
The nearly 30 boats then rounded a mark there and returned to the starting area to finish. There were even a few spectator boats in the water.
Elsewhere, a Luders 16 keelboat, Rowdy, a Herreschoff NY30, and Defender, a Fife 8m, and Blackjack, an H12, all finished first in their respective races, according to yachtscoring.com. EAch winner won a ceramic beer mug
“It was great; it was an amazing turnout,” organizer Steve Lubitz said. “It was perfect.”
