Thomas Robinson Cornwell

Thomas Robinson Cornwell, 87, of Cutchogue, died unexpectedly on Aug. 3, 2026.

Tom was born in Richmond, Va. and adopted by Clifford G. and Myra R. Cornwell, growing up in Manhasset and on the North Fork with his younger sister Anne.

Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Lehigh University. He spent his career in commercial insurance, with expertise that was cited in respected publications, such as the American Bar Association Journal. After a long career with Chubb and Son, that culminated in his role as vice-president of technology, he was later recruited by the Travelers to establish their commercial technology insurance division. Motivated by keen civic responsibility, he was an active member of his neighborhood’s Property Owners Association (president 2010 to 2016), and supported organizations devoted to the preservation of American history.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving parents Cliff and Myra; sister Anne; and his nephew Scott. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Marian; his sons Christopher and Jeffrey; his daughter-in-law Melinda and granddaughter Arden; his brother-in-law Nils and sister-in-law Janet; and his nieces Anne and Erica, nephew Todd and their families.

Donations to Colonial Williamsburg Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

The family will plan a Celebration of Life at a later date.
