Diane Gail Palumbo

Diane Gail Palumbo of Mattituck, and former longtime resident of Patchogue, passed away at home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026. She was 83 years old.

Diane was born on Aug. 4, 1943 in Bay Shore, N.Y. to Ellen (née Larson) and Howard Shene. She was one of three children.

On June 21, 1961, in Blue Point, N.Y., she married the love of her life, the late Anthony Palumbo and together they had three children. She was a stay-at-home mom and loved her family dearly. She was “Past Beloved Queen” of the Southside Triangle #134 in Sayville, N.Y. (circa 1960). She was also a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck.

Predeceased by her husband Anthony; Diane is survived by her three children Lori Palumbo, Sharon Palumbo and Anthony H. Palumbo (Tracy); three grandchildren Lorelei Palumbo, Ryan Palumbo and Madeline Palumbo; and two sisters Linda Johannessen and Janet Watts (David).

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck, officiated by Father Michael Bartholomew. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Donation forms will be available at the funeral home.
