The Southold Town Board has set two public hearings for Nov. 5, at which residents can weigh in on the preliminary 2015 budget. That budget includes changes from Supervisor Scott Russell’s tentative budget, which was released Oct. 1.
The town’s spending plan is now $43.1 million, which calls for a 1.87 percent tax levy increase for local taxpayers. That’s an increase of about .42 percent from the tentative budget, which initially called for $42.8 million in total spending, Mr. Russell said Tuesday. (more…)
The salary for the newly created position of Southold Town Justice Court director is getting bumped up before the job is ever filled.
After receiving little interest from qualified civil service candidates at a lower pay scale, town officials said, the Town Board unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday increasing the starting salary for the position from $63,000 to $80,000. (more…)

The treasurer said she was missing “key information about the electric rates.”
And Greenport Mayor David Nyce told a reporter only that the big spike in many residents’ power bills before the Christmas holiday had to do with “an additional Independent Service Operator charge” that the village was “passing on.” (more…)
