Two men were indicted for manslaughter Monday for allegedly supplying heroin cut with fentanyl to a Riverhead man who fatally overdosed in September 2018.

Every so often, Peconic farmer Fred Lee is approached by someone who wants to know how he had the foresight to convert his farm to organic more than a decade ago.

The move, which saw the farm become certified organic in 2007 but began several years earlier, came just ahead of a dramatic shift in more consumers seeking healthier, organically farmed produce.

“Some people say, ‘Wow you really switched at the right time. You’re a marketing genius,’ ” Mr. Lee said.

But the transition, he added, was more fortuitous than clairvoyant and more a personal decision than one dictated by market trends.  (more…)

Sky-gazers enjoyed a rare sight Sunday as a supermoon coincided with a total lunar eclipse. The syzygy of Earth, the moon and sun caused the celestial phenomenon, but also brought unusual tidal patterns. These tides — the highest and lowest of the year — are colloquially known as the king tides.  READ

Property owners with lots larger than 3/4 acre can build a bigger home in Southold than in any other town on the East End.

While towns and villages in East Hampton, Southampton and Shelter Island have set tighter restrictions on house sizes in recent years, Southold and Riverhead towns have not.  READ
