Wednesday marked the first day of school for Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District, with children at Cutchogue East Elementary filing into classes under the direction of assistant principal Ilana Finnegan.

Cutchogue East Elementary School students will see at least one new face on the first day of school this September.
Kathleen Devine of Bayport, 57, was hired last Thursday to replace Anne Smith, who will step into her own new role as Mattituck-Cutchogue School District superintendent after James McKenna retires July 31. (more…)

When asked to pose for a photo, many small children tense up and present a self-conscious, often goofy version of themselves. They tilt their heads, smile crookedly and hunch their shoulders. They might even stick out their tongues.

Cutchogue East Elementary School celebrated the last day of school with a party at the beach in New Suffolk.
Students, teachers, staff and parents gathered at the bay to say goodbye to school and hello to summer. Students played games, hunted for sea creatures and splashed in the water.

Cutchogue East Elementary School fifth and sixth graders will present ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr’ with a premiere performance at 7 p.m. Friday at Main Road school. There will also be a 2:30 p.m. performance Saturday.

On Friday night, audience members were transported back to ancient China as Cutchogue East Elementary students presented Mulan Jr, a stage adaptation of Disney’s 1998 film. Mulan Jr. tells the story of a young Chinese girl who disguises herself as a man to go to war accompanied by her mischievous sidekick Mushu, and includes songs from the movie.
A second performance is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. in the Cutchogue East Cafetorium.
