This Election Day, voters on the North Fork can take a huge step to improve water quality and preserve open space and farmland. Since 1999, the Community Preservation Fund has raised over $1 billion for land and historic preservation in East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton and Southold, which cover 40 percent of Suffolk County’s land.

With its gym serving as a polling place, there’s usually no school on Election Day in the Mattituck-Cutchogue district, but with the loss of school days to Hurricane Sandy, the district has reversed that policy this year.

Below is Friday’s announcement from Superintendent James McKenna:

“Due to the four day loss of instructional time, we have elected to hold classes on Tuesday, November 6.  Students are to report to school as usual. All students K-12 will be in classes on Tuesday.

Both Mattituck High School and Cutchogue East are polling sites. Parking will be at a premium. All students are encouraged to take the bus, including seniors. There will be no parking for them on school grounds. We also anticipate some traffic volume at dismissal at Cutchogue East.

If possible, have your child take the bus. Please be patient and follow any changes in pick-up procedures.

I wish to thank you all for your cooperation and support during this challenging time. For those still without power, I wish you a safe and quick return to electricity.”
