One of Heather Walker’s most cherished memories from her childhood in Greenport took place in the woods on Frank Field’s property. After trick-or-treating on Halloween, she would head there with other friends to take a ride on Mr. Field’s Peconic County Miniature Railroad. The Greenport Rotary is chugging along in hopes of getting the “Greenport Express,” a miniature train and railroad it plans to run in Moore’s Woods, up and running soon. READ
The first fundraiser for Greenport Rotary’s “Greenport Express” project drew about 300 people and raised more than $7,000 Tuesday night, according to Rotarian Joe Cherepowich.
The “Greenport Express” made its public debut over the weekend in the annual East End Maritime Festival parade, where the Greenport Rotary Club put the miniature train’s locomotive and three cars on a trailer and paraded down Front Street.
