Eight local school board incumbents are up for re-election this year. And so far, one is stepping down after her term, two have indicated they’re undecided on whether they’ll appear on the May 20 ballots, and another two are gearing up re-election runs. Three board members were unavailable for comment.
To gain a spot on the ballot, candidate petitions are due April 21, under state law.

Citing personal reasons, Greenport school board member Michael Mazzaferro resigned Monday from the seat he’s held since 2008.
During its annual reorganization meeting, the board voted 3-1 to appoint former school board vice president Lisa Murray to serve out the remaining year of Mr. Mazzaferro’s term. Dan Creedon, who was re-elected by the school board Monday night to serve a second year as vice president, cast the lone dissenting vote.
Ms. Murray was first elected in 2009. At the end of her three-term last year, she announced she would not seek reelection due to personal reasons.
