In case they ever wondered what it might look like, Orient Congregational Church pre-schoolers got the chance Thursday to see a 500-pound pumpkin, of the Dill’s Atlantic Giant variety, to be precise, grown by Tom Stevenson at The Oysterponds Farm in Orient.
“That’s a baby compared to some of the record-setters,” Mr. Stevenson said. “A guy up in Rhode Island just grew one that’s over two thousand pounds.”
Reader Beth Anello captured this image of a rainbow stretching across Long Island Sound in Southold. There have been no confirmed reports of a pot of gold being found at either end of the rainbow.
Here’s a few happy photos to brighten up this gloomy Tuesday morning.
Reader Mary Lou Wilson said she’d noticed a pair of mallard ducks in the pond behind her home for several days, but it wasn’t until Sunday that she realized they were expecting. That’s when Ms. Wilson spotted Mama Duck and about a dozen baby ducklings swimming around in the pond.
“They are the most precious babies,” she said. ” I just have to keep my yellow lab, Baby, from trying to chase them away.”
We hope you enjoy her pics.
