Kyle Soper of Manorville secured his first career NASCAR Modified championship with a fourth-place finish in a 40-lap race at Riverhead Raceway Saturday night. Soper, 22, beat out Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead by six points for the Whelen All American Series title. Earlier in the night he won his second consecutive Late Model championship.

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville took another step towards his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship Saturday when he won the Miller Lite 200 at Riverhead Raceway. It was his sixth career WMT victory at the track where his NASCAR Modified career began. The victory also upped his overall Riverhead NASCAR Modified win total to 13. Defending NASCAR Modified champion Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead and his race team had to virtually rebuild their car after a hard crash on Aug. 22. The car wasn’t finished until 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Later that night, Rogers went out and rewarded his hard-working group by sweeping the Twin 50 NASCAR Modified events at Riverhead Raceway Saturday evening. The victories were the 50th and 51st of his career, moving him to second on the track’s all-time win list that is led by Charlie Jarzombek with 63 wins. READ
A surprise start led to a masterful restart and victory.
Timmy Solomito of Islip made a surprise visit to his old stomping grounds Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway. Then he promptly went out and mastered a late-race restart to win the night’s 50-lap NASCAR Modified feature event for his 20th career victory. That tied him with Howie Brode and Ronnie Herra for 18th on the all-time win list. (more…)
