The East Marion Fire Department will be starting up its heavy rescue engine Saturday, looking to spread a little bit of holiday cheer around town.

Santa — more affectionately known as Chief Frank Thorp III — will be riding around town in somewhat of a peculiar sleigh, giving gifts to about 150 children.

The North Fork Animal Welfare League held its annual open house at the Southold shelter in Peconic Saturday afternoon.

Despite snowy weather, plenty of folks showed up with their pets to have photos taken with Santa, enjoy refreshments and tour the facility.

The Christmas season officially opened in Cutchogue Saturday morning as Santa arrived by helicopter in the middle of a snowstorm.

After being treated to a magic show at the firehouse, kids and their parents excitedly watched as Santa made a dramatic arrival in the swirling snow.
