Basketball: Playoff brackets released, No. 1 Southold to play for county crown Monday

GARRET MEADE PHOTO | Justina Babcock and the Southold girls basketball team will play for the Class C county championship Monday.

The Southold girls basketball team’s first playoff game will be for a Suffolk County title.

The First Settlers (13-5) received the No. 1 seed in the Suffolk Class C Tournament when Section XI released the brackets on Thursday. They will play the winner of tomorrow’s outbracket game between No. 2 Pierson/Bridgehampton (7-10) and No. 3 Port Jefferson (6-7) in the final on Monday at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue at 8 p.m.

The Class C champion will play Shelter Island (12-4) in the C-D game on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s College at 6 p.m.

Mattituck (9-9) was awarded the No. 3 seed it was looking for. With it comes a Suffolk Class B semifinal at No. 2 Hampton Bays (14-4) on Saturday at noon. The other semifinal will pit No. 1 Southampton (15-3) against No. 4 Center Moriches (8-5) on Saturday at 6 p.m. The two finalists will play each other on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s College at 8:30 p.m.

As expected, the Greenport boys basketball team has received the No. 1 seed in the Suffolk County Class C Tournament, and will play in the county final on Monday night.

The playoff brackets show that the Porters (12-6) will play either No. 2 Bridgehampton (7-11) or No. 3 The Ross School (8-9) at Suffolk County Community College in Selden at 4 p.m. Bridgehampton and Ross will play their outbracket game tomorrow.

The Suffolk Class C champion will play in the Class C-D game on Wednesday at Farmingdale State College at 5 p.m.

Neither Southold (6-12) or Mattituck (1-17) qualified for the playoffs. Southold needed to win its final regular-season game last night in order to do so, but lost to Pierson, 46-38.
