We hope you’re wearing your seat belt

It’s likely you’ll come across a police checkpoint during your travels next week and you better hope you’re wearing your seat belt.

Southold Town officials announced this week that town police will participate in the state’s “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign, between May 21 and June 4.

During that period, drivers should expect to see officers conducting high-visibility checkpoints throughout the town in order to enforce the use of seat belts among motorists and passengers.

The campaign boasts that through these efforts New York has reached its highest seat belt use rate at 89 percent, officials said.
