The Health Care Association of New York State has named the Auxiliary at Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) in Greenport ‘Auxiliary of the Year,’ the hospital said.

The award recognizes the various ways auxiliaries strengthen New York’s health care system.

“The ELIH Auxiliary’s dedication is so inspiring,” said Thomas J. Murray, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Eastern Long Island Hospital. “Recent initiatives have included a car seat identification program for new mothers and grandmothers as well as participation in the local Farmer’s Market helping to share information about health and nutrition.”

According to Pat Kiernan, vice president of community relations at ELIH, the Auxiliary at ELIH raised over $350,000 for patient services last year. In addition to transporting patients, aiding visitors and assisting clerical staff, Auxiliary employees perform advocacy work in the form of letter writing campaigns to local, state and federal officials.
