Isaac Israel

Isaac Israel of Greenport died March 7, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 87. 

He was born in Brooklyn, April 3, 1926, to Albert and Rachel Israel. Mr. Israel earned a Bachelors of Science in aeronautical engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from New York University.  He founded and owned Palby Lingerie, a ladies sleepwear manufacturing company in Brooklyn and Elmont.

Mr. Israel lived in Lawrence, N.Y.  where he was a long standing member and commodore of the Lawrence Yacht Club. He was an avid boater and fisherman, whose summer boating cruises brought him to Greenport. Mr. Israel became a weekend resident in the 1970s and after retiring in the 1980s, became a year round resident of Gull Pond. He was a charter member of the Gull Pond Yacht Club and commodore as well.

Mr. Israel was a generous supporter of many local causes including the Eastern Long Island Hospital, the East End Seaport and Seaport Marine Foundation and its blacksmith shop, the Greenport Rotary Club and Temple Israel of Riverhead.

He was predeceased by his wife Pauline in 2004 and is survived by his three sons and their wives, Arthur and Jodi of Morristown, N.J., Sol and Jackie of New Rochelle and Richard and Lisa of Greenport and his seven grandchildren, Isaac, Marcel, Alison, Rachel, David, Herbert & Jason.

The funeral and internment were held on March 9.
