Greenport News: PTA collecting donations through Oct. 18

I do believe autumn has arrived a bit early this year. There’s a nip in the air but, as every cloud has a silver lining, I think I have to admit it’s good sleeping weather.

Congratulations to Lisa (née Dinizio) and Ken Chapman on the birth of their son, Christopher, who arrived Sept. 10 and tipped the scales at 7 pounds even. Bragging rights to this handsome little man belong to maternal grandparents Pat and Bill Dinizio of Greenport. Congratulations to all.

Fall cleaning time is a chance to get rid of all that unwanted clutter — and the Greenport PTA can put all those unwanted items to good use. The PTA is collecting clothing, shoes, purses, backpacks, quilts, sheets, towels, hats, scarves, rugs and toys. You can drop off donations in the main lobby of the school any time through Oct. 18 between noon and 1 p.m.

Congratulations to Julia Northey and Stephen Kiely, who were married Sept. 13 in a beautiful ceremony at Martha Clara Vineyards. I wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

We’ve got students moving around all over the place this year. Adeline Haugen arrived in Greenport Aug. 25 from Liege, Belgium, to attend school in Greenport. She’ll live the first half of the year with the Creedon family and then move to the Tuthill home in Orient. A second exchange student, Pedro Cuoto de Morales from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, will stay with the Bunchuck family. Meantime, Mairi Creedon, who graduated last year, has relocated to Quito, Ecuador, for the year and Suzie Bunchuk, a GHS junior, is studying in Taiwan. All four students are participating in the Rotary Youth Exchange program.

The friends of MaryEllen “Buzz” Campbell would like to thank the community for its support in last month’s Stand Up 2 Cancer fundraiser.

St. Agnes Faith Formation classes resume Tuesday, Sept. 30, 3-4:15 p.m., for children in grades 1-5 and Wednesday, Oct. 1, 6:45-8 p.m. for those in grades 6-8. Be sure to register your children in advance via the parish website or in the foyer of St. Agnes Church.

Pat and Bill Hamilton of Peconic Landing celebrated their 65th anniversary Sept. 10. Their sons Bill, John and David and daughter Ann Duprey, as well as eight grandchildren, were all on hand to celebrate this very special occasion Sept. 7.

Birthday wishes go out to Carlos DeJesus, Marc LaMaina and Eileen Sayre on Sept. 18; Candis Leary, Sofia Land, Mary Kathryn Baker, Boni Quatroche Fash and Bryan Anderson on the 20th; Chris Ruroede and her daughter, Brittany, as well as Shelby Kostal on the 21st; Shelley Boyd, Peter Vandenoth and Bruce Sieverman on the 22nd; Bart Ruroede, Nick Mazzaferro, Semar Bell and Bruce Land on the 23rd; Ian Ryan, Amy Finno Israel and Donna Angevine Smith on the 24th; my cousins Patty Hocker and Gayle Wilburn Bealer on the 25th; another cousin, Gwen Cutts, along with Michael Santiago, Donna Harrison, Frank Zahra and Jerry Diffley on the 26th; Jordan Marshall, Anthony Chance, Barbara Klos and Dr. Micah Kaplan on the 27th; Luke Doroski, Chris Manfredi, Jim Harrison, Gregory Jensen, Matthew Blasko, Greg Barkley and Bob White Jr. on the 28th; Damon Rallis and William Berg on the 29th; Joann Caravello-Modica on the 30th; and Lisa Kreiling and Scott Ferguson on Oct. 1.
