Longtime Cutchogue resident John A. Prestia, formerly of Center Moriches died Oct. 26 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 83.
He was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Staten Island to Vincent and Nancy Prestia. On Sept. 27, 1958, he married Barbara (née Dudley) of Staten Island.
Mr. Prestia served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Most recently, he worked as a custodian for Smithtown Central School District.
Family members said he enjoyed football and played semi-professionally. He also enjoyed baseball, gardening and cooking.
Mr. Prestia is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Cutchogue; his children Madeline Sugrue of California, Vincent, of Manorville and Barbara Nguyen of Manor Park and four grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held Oct. 30 at noon at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
