A Southold driver was sent to the hospital early Friday morning after a single-car accident in Cutchogue, Southold Town Police said.

Kyle Van Duzer, 27, was headed eastbound on Route 48 at 1:25 a.m. when his car veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole on the south side of the highway near Bridge Lane, police said. Mr. Van Duzer was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. Power was out in the area for several hours as a result of the incident, police said.

Prior to the incident, police said it appeared as though Mr. VanDuzer’s vehicle left the roadway and brushed a guardrail in the area of Depot Lane.

A two-car crash that occurred in Southold Wednesday night sent both drivers and some passengers to a local hospital for various injuries, Southold Town Police said.

Police said Lyn Rausch, 51, of Selden, was traveling eastbound on Route 48, when she allegedly went off the road and struck another vehicle, driven by Kenneth Hippner, 40, of Lebanon, Ohio, at the intersection of Boisseau Avenue and Route 48. Both drivers and the passengers in Mr. Hippner’s vehicle were transported to Eastern Long Island Hosptial by the Southold Fire Department for the treatment of various injuries, police said. The nature of those injuries and the number of passengers sent to the hospital was not included in the press release.

Police said the incident is currently under investigation.

Southold Police diverted traffic off the Main Road in Mattituck at 10 a.a. Thursday after an elderly man fell while crossing the highway by the intersection with Wickham Avenue.

After a good Samaritan motorist heading eastward shielded the man with his vehicle, members of the Mattituck Fire Department rescue squad transported the man to Eastern Long Island Hospital.

The road was reopened within a half hour.

Four people were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital after a motor vehicle accident on Route 48 in Cutchogue Thursday.

Southold Town Police said that Giuseppi Racanelli, 86, of Cutchogue was driving north on Depot Lane when he failed to yield the right of way to a pickup truck driven by Harold Thilberg, 79, of East Marion who was driving west on Route 48 causing Mr. Thilberg’s truck to roll over.

Two ambulances and one heavy rescue truck from the Cutchogue Fire Department rescue squad responded to the crash. Both drivers, along with passengers Rosa Racanelli, 85, and Dorothy Thilberg, 74, were taken to ELIH.

Westbound traffic was re-routed to Route 25Thursday afternoon.

Three women suffered internal injuries after a four-vehicle accident on Route 25 in Laurel Tuesday afternoon.

The Jamesport, Mattituck and Cutchogue fire departments were called to the scene near Laurel Lake Vineyards while traffic was diverted from Route 25.

Police said Virginia McCaffery, 42, of Mattituck was driving west on Route 25 when she had a coughing fit and did not see another car, driven by Noemi Oliva, 27, of Laurel, that was stopped in the westbound lane, while turning left into a driveway.

Ms. McCaffery reportedly hit Ms. Oliva’s car, which caused Ms. Oliva’s car to strike another car, driven by Colleen Merz, 46, of Mattituck, who was heading east on Route 25, and another vehicle in which no one was injured.

All three women suffered internal injuries, according to police. Ms. Oliva was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center by police helicopter, Ms. Merz was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport by Cutchogue Fire Department and Ms. McCaffery was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead by Mattituck Fire Department.
