Going to great lengths
Siobhan Merrill, 11, of Southold reacts to having more than eight inches of her hair cut so she could donate it to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths Program, which provides free wigs to those who have lost their hair due to side effects of cancer treatment.
It wasnice to be able to chat with many of you at the recent school budget vote. It was a great opportunity for me to gather news for this column!
Thanks to all who supported Southold Free Library’s 2011 budget. The library’s newsletter will be mailed to all residents soon. Lots of fun activities are planned for the summer months.
Be sure to stop and look at the farming exhibit in the library’s foyer showcase. The display is part of the Whitaker Historical Collection.
Barbara Berry and Shirley Crocker are the proud great-grandmothers of Callie Grace Cleveland, born May 8. Callie is the daughter of April (Berry) and Brett Cleveland of Tomball, Texas. The thrilled grandparents are Neil and Patricia Berry and Rudy and Pinkie Madrid. Callie shares her birthday with great-grandfather Chet Berry.
Memorial Day is Monday and Southold is dressed and ready! Thanks to the efforts of Major Bill Grigonis and the NJROTC cadets, American flags are flying proudly in the village. Donations will be gratefully accepted; you can send them to the Southold Village Merchants, P.O. Box 1356, Southold, NY 11971 or call Carol Scott (765-4100) or Joan Tyrer (765-9500).
Family and friends gathered in Charleston, S.C., on May 16 for the wedding of former Southolders Chris Czartosieski and Amanda Dunn. Chris is the son of Chuck and Anita, who now live in Lake Ariel, Pa., and Amanda is the daughter of Mickey and Marilyn Dunn.
A fond farewell to Caren Maietta, her husband, John, and daughter, Allie, as they leave Southold for Greenville, S.C. We wish them the best of luck in their new home.
Belated happy birthday to Ann Elak on May 17th and Verna Fitzpatrick on the 26th. Congratulations are also in order for former Southold resident Carmela Trupia, who turned 100 this past week. Carmela recently relocated to Mattituck.
Birthday wishes are also being sent to Sal Campo on the 29th, Janet Kehl on June 1 and Mackenzie Feeley on the 2nd.
Tonight, Thursday, May 27, at 7 p.m. the Southold elementary band and chorus will present their spring concert. All are invited to enjoy the talents of these young musicians.
Southold junior high students of the month were: Brittany Bellomo, math; Giuliana Buono, art; Muhammet Ilgin, ESL; Jennifer Jaklevic, English; Kevin McGough, physical education; Sean Moran, science; Jamie O’Sullivan, social studies; and Morgan Walter, technology.
High school students of the month were Aimee Andrejack, family and consumer science; Emmett Bufkins, family and consumer science; Mackenzie Feeley, business; Trevor Perry, technology; Joanna Pontino, foreign language; Gabriella Purita, art; and Natalia Sabater, art.
