Greenport School evacuation is only a drill

05/27/2011 2:32 PM |

Sirens, fire trucks, police cars all usually spell emergency, it was just a drill in Greenport Friday afternoon.

In Southold, students were released early to test arrangements for evacuating schools in an emergency.

Parents were notified of the drills in advance. The aim was also to give parents a chance to test any arrangements made should their children ever have to be released early in case of a real emergency.

  • Why are Riverhead taxpayers subsidizing tax breaks to failed ventures????

Given the fact that the IDA Board serves at the pleasure of Riverhead’s patently incompetent Town Board, is there any doubt that it didn’t bother to do any meaningful due diligence before giving away tax breaks on a main thoroughfare already over developed?

Is it time to get rid of these incompetent officials?

  • Did the town get paid what it’s owed from this transaction ? if not why?

  • Perhaps you can ask Sandmine Sean who appointed his family’s ex-business partner in another land deal to run the board of losers.

  • No more tax breaks. They do not help. Taxpayers keep getting screwed. Don’t just complain. Call, write, and visit the supervisor and the board. Tell them what to do. If they don’t, either press charges, vote them out, or just be quiet and stop raising your blood pressure.

  • Speaking about screwing…was that among the criteria for the 20 year tax break for another business with a principal, shall we say, “intimately” involved with Riverhead’s Republicans?

  • To correct the facts here, Bowl 58 never revieved a property tax break for this venture. In order for an IDA exemption to be applied. Paperwork has to be filed in the assessor’s office. There is no such filing of record, so there is no IDA exemption on this property.

  • I’m still waiting for a quote from Sean, who will somehow try to take credit, and use this as his propoganda for how “things are happening and the town of Riverhead is alive with activity”. C’mon Sean, don’t disappoint me……………

  • With so many citizens having trouble making ends meet and Riverhead getting hit with the highest tax hike on Long Island, it is simply outageous that the Town’s Industrial Development Agency awarded tax breaks to a private bowling alley venture on overdeveloped Route 58 that could not even open for business.

Like the failures with the Dump, Apollo, Rechler and Riverhead Resorts, one wonders if our Town officials are even capable of intelligently evaluating projects worthy of these significant benefits.

Our patently incompetent Town Board and IDA must accept responsibility for this embarrasment and come up with a credible plan for development of projects (perhaps other than bowling alleys) that can create real jobs if legitimate businesses are ever to take Riverhead seriously.

  • Thank You Mason….

  • If this bowling alley ever gets rolling, how many well paying jobs will it create?

  • ZERO! (I’m sorry. . . MAYBE one.)

How many very low paying jobs will it create? Probably 10 or 15 at best.

and how much will it contribute in taxes per year? What kind of breaks did it get?

  • Obviously they’re not, and obviously they haven’t been since 19—– well, since EVER.

  • However, favors were granted as per this news article: http://suffolktimes.timesreview.com/2010/07/1851/finances-stall-bowl-58/ Don’t argue which mechanisms were used, favors were granted at our (the taxpayer) expense.

  • THANK YOU LITTLE BROTHER…I DON’T KNOW WHERE I WAS THROUGH ALL THAT.I DID REMEMBER WHILE READING THE TOWN HELPING OUT.
THANKS AGAIN BRO ..IT OPENED MY EYES.

  • Yep.. it’s a win-win alright. Except its a huge, lifeless eyesore which more than likely has undesirable tenants whom will have to be vacated one day.

  • whats going to happen with it meaning bowl 58 folks bowlers have no where to go around here we need something 4 us to do in winter time
