Greenport Village Trustee won’t seek reelection

Greenport Village Trustee Chris Kempner confirmed Tuesday she will not seek reelection in March.

Ms. Kempner said in an email that working as a trustee and community development director for Riverhead Town while raising two young daughters has become too hectic.

“I hope there are some engaged new candidates that want to dedicate some time to running the village,” Ms. Kempner said.

Trustee Mary Bess Phillips is also up for reelection. She declined comment Tuesday.

Both trustees were first elected to the Village Board in 2009 after beating incumbents Bill Swiskey and Valerie Shelby.

Greenport will hold elections for the two Village Board seats on March 19 between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. at the Third Street firehouse.

Village clerk Sylvia Pirillo said the petitions needed to secure a spot on the ballot must be filed by Feb. 12.
