Boys Basketball: Dibble’s 26 points carry Greenport to win
Junior guard Gavin Dibble scored a season-high 26 points to power Greenport High School to a 50-36 victory over the visiting Ross School in a League VIII boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Dibble collected 17 points in the first half on the strength of five 3-point shots, four in the second quarter. He added eight rebounds, eight steals and six assists.
Forwards Austin Hooks scored eight points and Billy Doucett contributed five points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Guard Timmy Stevens collected six points and seven steals for the Porters (3-2 overall, 2-0 league).
Roosevelt Odidi led Ross (0-6, 0-2) with 20 points.
The game was held up for 20 minutes as Ross’ Chris Lee suffered an apparent back injury while battling for the ball with 6:55 remaining in the game.
Lee was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital.
“I guess they’re going to release him,” Ross coach Kevin O’Halloran said on Tuesday night. “I guess he checked out OK.”
At the time, the Porters were clinging to a 37-36 lead. After play resumed, they pulled away by scoring the final 13 points of the game. Dibble scored six points during that stretch, all foul shots.
