Town offers free hazardous disposal program
Southold Town is allowing residents to dispose of hazardous household waste for free next weekend.
The program — funded in part through a grant from the state Department of Environmental Conservation — allows residents to safely get rid of oil-based paints and stains, herbicides, poisons, corrosive cleaners, turpentine, wood preservatives, aerosols, automotive liquids, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers, items containing mercury and other potentially dangerous materials.
The program is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Cutchogue Transfer Station on Cox Lane.
