The Town Board on Tuesday appointed eight people to its newly formed Southold Town Helicopter Noise Steering Committee.
Adam Irving, Margie Brock, Amy Greenberg, Len Greenberg, Janice LoRusso, Margy Pisani, Donald Kirby and Paula Daniel were all voted in unanimously. Supervisor Scott Russell and Councilman Bob Ghosio will serve as board liaisons.
Initially, the plan was to appoint a five-member ad hoc committee. However, the town received a good deal of interest from residents looking to sign up, Mr. Ghosio said.
“Quite a few people stepped up to be on the committee,” he said.
The committee will assist the Town Board in developing strategies and proposing solutions to address helicopter noise on the North Fork. It will be responsible for rallying citizens, distributing information and reaching out to other East End groups that are trying to combat helicopter noise.
Eventually, it will become an independent committee that could potentially hold its own elections to choose officials, he said.
BUDGET MEETING SET
Town officials will host an informational meeting about Mr. Russell’s proposed 2015 budget later this month.
Mr. Russell and town comptroller John Cushman will speak and answer questions about the budgeting process. The meeting will focus on the content of the proposed 2015 spending plan, anticipated revenues and expenditures, as well as the reason for the proposed 1.37 percent budget increase over the 2014 budget that resulted in a 1.45 percent tax levy increase. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Town Hall meeting room.
There will be a public hearing on the final budget on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.
COURT OFFICER RESIGNS
Longtime Southold Town Justice Court officer Donato Cappabianca has resigned.
The Town Board unanimously accepted Mr. Cappabianca’s intent to retire before Dec. 31 on Tuesday.
Mr. Russell declined to comment on the resignation, calling it a personnel matter.
