Helen J. Wynne

Helen J. Wynne of Southold passed away March 11, 2015, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She would have turned 86 in August. 

Helen was born in Jersey City, N.J., the youngest of five girls, to Jane (Stratford) and Lawrence Geraghty. She lived in the New Jersey communities of Weehawken and Palisades Park before moving to Southold 25 years ago.

Helen was a retired teacher of the Union City, N.J., school system and Hudson County Community College of N.J. She was a member of Southold-Peconic Seniors and a former volunteer at Eastern Long Island Hospital, as well as a member of the New Jersey Education Association Society and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority at New York University.

Helen was predeceased in 2002 by her husband of 48 years, Norman R. Wynne; and by her sisters, Janet Deutsch, Mary Judy, Margaret Geraghty and Madeline Rigoni. She was the loving mother of Jane Kaminski of Middlefield, Conn., and Barbara Wynne of Newport Beach, Calif.; and the caring grandmother of James, Kurt and Ryan Kaminski. She is also survived by her son-in-law, James Kaminski; her niece Mary Margaret Judy; and her nephew Donald Rigoni.

Helen will be hugely missed by family and friends. May the memory of her wit bring a smile to all who loved her.

The family received visitors March 16 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated March 17 at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
